Getting to Phuket

Your complete guide to reaching Thailand's island paradise

Phuket International Airport

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is Thailand's second-busiest airport and serves as the main gateway to the island. The modern, well-equipped airport handles millions of visitors annually with both international and domestic flights.

The airport is located in the north of the island, approximately 32 km from Phuket Town and 45 km from the popular Patong Beach area. Despite the distance, getting from the airport to your hotel is straightforward with multiple transportation options available.

International Flights

Phuket receives direct international flights from major cities across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Popular routes include:

  • From Southeast Asia: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Manila
  • From China: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu
  • From Europe: London, Frankfurt, Moscow, Helsinki
  • From Middle East: Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi
  • From Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Perth

Major airlines operating to Phuket include Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and many others.

Connecting Through Bangkok

If there are no direct flights from your location, connecting through Bangkok is an excellent option. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) offers extensive international connections. From Bangkok, domestic flights to Phuket take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, and Nok Air all operate frequent daily flights between Bangkok and Phuket. Book early for the best rates, especially during peak season.

From Airport to Your Hotel

Several transportation options are available from Phuket Airport:

Airport Taxi

Official metered taxis are available at the arrivals area. Fares to popular beaches: Patong (800-1000 THB), Kata/Karon (900-1100 THB), Rawai (1000-1200 THB).

Airport Bus

The most economical option at 100-200 THB per person. Routes cover all major beaches. Comfortable and reliable but makes multiple stops.

Private Transfer

Book in advance for door-to-door service. More expensive but convenient, especially with luggage or groups. Most hotels can arrange this.

Grab App

Ride-hailing app similar to Uber. Often cheaper than taxis with transparent pricing. Download and set up before arriving.
